GT
I am a Graphic Artist/ Designer /Journeyman Press Operator with more than 25 years of experience in the Graphic Reproduction Industry in both Graphic Design and machine maintenance, repair and operation.
I began my printing career in my first year of High School where I learned the printing process from the ground up with the use of hand set lead type being run on a platen press, which is how I printed my first business cards. From that point I have followed through the evolution of the printing process with the implementation of wax-backed paste-ups to computer generated data sent directly to the digital press, and have always been able to quickly and easily adapt to new technologies. I have experience running many different offset presses as well as DI presses and others with extensive training in the diagnosis, repair and maintenance of Xerox iGen and HP Indigo (sheet fed and web) digital presses and the software that enables them.
I have an artists eye for detail and design and a pressman's working knowledge of the presses and systems used in modern print shops to produce printed media. I have experience with HTML5 and am comfortable working with designs for either digital, print or both.

04 Education
1974-1979
West Phoenix High School
Graphic Communications/Printing
I was able to talk the instructor and the Principal of the school into allowing me to take Graphics and Printing class my freshman year, even though it was a class for Juniors and Seniors only. I took the class for all four years of HS and progressed much further than students normally were allowed to in the regular 2 year course.
1982-1984
Clark Community College
Graphic Communications
I was in the Associates in Arts and Sciences Program in Graphic Communications.
Education Summary
When I began High School, there was a day of Student Orientation where the new Students were taken to all of the classes that the school offered and met the Instructors and saw the classrooms.
I saw the woodshop and liked it and thought it would be a fun class to take, the same with the Auto Shop. Then I was shown the Printing classroom and saw the presses including a platten press, a couple offset presses (one Chief and one ABDick) and I saw a poster on the wall, above the paper cutter, of Benjamin Franklin who was a printer in his day and one of his quotes and thought I'd really like to be a printer for a living, but the class was for Juniors and Seniors only, so I had to talk my way in, which I did and went on to take 4 years of printing in High School.
I started with hand set lead type from the California Job Case, justifying each line in a stick and locking it all into a frame and then printing my business cards by hand, one at a time.
As I continued my education, I saw the use of the Linotype, then saw the coming and going of wax coating strips of type and cutting and pasting it in place, and then photographing it with a Graphic Arts Camera, developing the negatives and stripping it to a sheet of goldenrod paper with ruby-lith tape to create a plate on a NuArc Plateburner.
It was all made obsolete by the advent of CTP typesetting and later by Digital presses capable of variable data printing.
Along the way, I learned to hand cut and also make photosilk silkscreen prints, I have run most bindary equipment, presses, and all of the other equipment one might find in a printing shop.
I later went on to learn more about creating graphic design and layout with the most modern equipment and software packages. To quote an old song, "What a long strange trip it's been" and I have truly loved every minute of it.
